India develops as a skid-steer loader hub

By Chris Sleight |  28 February 2020

Off-Highway Research’s new equipment analysis on the Indian skid-steer loader market shows demand for this type of machine remains modest. Sales were less than 1,000 units last year, and the segment accounted for only 1 per cent of total equipment sales.

However, as the report details, India has become an important regional export hub for this type of equipment.

“Most skid-steer loaders are produced in the country and sold overseas, with production fluctuation reflecting general export trends. Earlier production of skid-steer loaders was mainly driven by local demand, but Caterpillar and JCB started local manufacturing of skid-steer loaders in 2014 and began to export large quantities,” said the report.

And while skid-steer loaders are unlikely to become a high-volume equipment type in India, sales are expected to increase in the coming years as demand for construction machines rises.
