Continued high in German mini excavator sales

By Chris Sleight |  16 July 2018

Mini excavator sales in Germany totalled 14,829 units last year. This represented a four per cent decline on 2016 but was still the second highest year on record. The peak of 2016 and 2017 has seen higher sales than either the previous high in the pre-crisis years of the mid-2000s or the reunification boom of the early 1990s.

Commenting on the current high in the market, Off-Highway Research’s new Equipment Analysis on the German Mini Excavator Industry said, “Demand has been underpinned by a booming construction sector, currently one of the main growth drivers in the German economy, and in particular by the surge in residential construction as the country attempts to rectify the drastic shortage of affordable housing. General construction has also contributed significantly to the industry’s growth, whilst record-low borrowing costs have encouraged both rental companies and private contractors to invest heavily in machinery fleets.”
